Filmmaker Muralikanth has addressed ongoing comparisons between his forthcoming film Dhandoraa and the critically acclaimed rural drama Balagam, stating that the two films differ significantly in both narrative focus and social intent. Dhandoraa is scheduled for theatrical release on 25 December and is being promoted as a meaningful social drama rather than a conventional family entertainer.

Speaking during promotional interactions, Muralikanth explained that while Balagam centred largely on familial emotions and cultural traditions following a death, Dhandoraa examines a deeper and more uncomfortable social reality. The film focuses on discrimination faced even after death, particularly the lack of access to burial or cremation spaces for marginalised communities. According to the director, the story highlights how social inequality persists despite modern infrastructure such as government-provided graveyards.

Muralikanth shared that his inspiration for Dhandoraa comes from his roots in Medak district. Although he once worked in the United States, he chose to leave behind a settled life to pursue filmmaking, driven by a desire to tell stories grounded in rural realities. He noted that he is less interested in routine love stories and more inclined towards narratives that question social structures and expose uncomfortable truths.

Discussing the cast, the director praised Sivaji’s performance, stating that every character in the film is closely tied to the protagonist’s journey. He also revealed that actress Bindu Madhavi plays a strong and unexpected role, adding depth to the narrative. A notable aspect of Dhandoraa, he added, is the prominence given to female characters, with key decisions in the story driven by women rather than men.

On the production side, Muralikanth admitted that the film began as a modest project, but producer Ravindra Benarjee expanded the budget to ensure higher production values. He also spoke about the change of title from Antima Yatra to Dhandoraa, believing the new name better reflects the film’s powerful message.

Concluding, the director assured audiences that while the trailer offers a glimpse into the film’s tone, Dhandoraa holds several emotional and narrative surprises, supported by impactful music and background score.
