KDirector Krish Jagarlamudi believes his upcoming film Ghaati will be a landmark in Anushka Shetty’s career. Speaking ahead of the release on 5 September, Krish said the film, set in the Eastern Ghats, is a mix of intense emotions, action, and a fresh cultural backdrop never seen before on screen.
The story centres on “Ghaatis”, labourers working in the Andhra-Odisha border region, where ganja cultivation has deep social consequences. Krish explained that the fictional tale tackles identity and survival, showing how individuals caught in such systems struggle with choices. “This is not a glorification of ganja. It is about a social issue that governments and citizens must fight together,” he said.
Anushka plays the key role of Shilavati, written specifically with her in mind. “After Vedam, I always wanted to work with Sweety again. Shilavati is a powerful, graceful character that suits her superstar presence perfectly,” Krish shared. Vikram Prabhu joins her as Desiraju, while Chaitanya Rao and Ravindra Vijay take on antagonist roles.
The director praised the Eastern Ghats as a natural character in the film. “The mountains gave us a new world. We captured sunrises, sunsets and extraordinary landscapes. Manoj, our cinematographer, did a brilliant job of bringing their soul to the screen.”
Music has been composed by Sagar, who Krish said created a fusion sound inspired by the hills. Lyricist Sai Madhav Burra also contributed impactful dialogues and songs that add depth to the story.
Producers Rajeev Reddy, Sai Babu Jagarlamudi and UV Creations backed the project with confidence. “Anushka has always given iconic performances, from Arundhati to Bhaagamathie. Ghaati gives her another exciting role. We never compromised on scale or vision,” Krish said.
With strong performances, breathtaking visuals and a socially relevant theme, Krish believes Ghaati will offer audiences not just entertainment but a thought-provoking cinematic experience.
