Choreographer-turned-director Vijay Binny is facing uncertainty in the Telugu film industry despite making a successful debut with Naa Saami Ranga. The film, starring veteran actor Nagarjuna, was released during Sankranti and went on to become a hit, giving Binny an impressive entry into direction.
However, nine months after the release, no new projects have come his way. In the film industry, it is common for producers to approach a director immediately after a hit, often offering advances or locking future projects. But in Vijay Binny’s case, that has not happened.
Industry insiders suggest that the lack of recognition for him as a writer may be one of the reasons. Although he initially came into the industry with the dream of becoming a director, his reputation as a talented choreographer overshadowed that. It was through Nagarjuna’s support that Naa Saami Ranga came to life. Binny had pitched a story to the actor, but Nagarjuna rejected it and instead asked him to direct a script he provided.
While the film gave Binny credibility as a director, his seriousness towards continuing in direction is now being questioned. Many believe that consistent effort is crucial in such a competitive field, and without strong follow-up projects, opportunities can quickly fade away.
Currently, Vijay Binny is keeping himself busy by hosting a television dance show. But observers note that being seen more as a TV personality than as a filmmaker may not help his directorial journey.
The question remains whether he can break this phase and secure a second film opportunity. Given his talent and the success of his debut, the industry will be watching closely to see if he can reposition himself as a director rather than just a choreographer and show host.
