Kerala Veteran Malayalam actor and Union Minister Suresh Gopi, along with Anupama Parameswaran, is in the spotlight once again, this time over the release of his upcoming film Janaki vs State of Kerala. The project has hit a roadblock after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) raised concerns over the movie’s title.

The censor board has objected to the use of the name “Janaki”, claiming it refers to the Hindu goddess Sita. This led to a delay in the film’s release, even though regional censors had already cleared it without issues. Officials in Mumbai have now asked the team to consider changing the title.

The film features Anupama Parameswaran as Janaki, a woman fighting for justice in court of law, Suresh Gopi plays a senior lawyer who defends her. It is set in Kerala.

The title dispute has stirred strong reactions, especially as Suresh Gopi is also a serving Union Minister. Although he has not yet commented on the situation, the issue has attracted some attention.

The filmmakers argue that changing the title would force them to modify several scenes and dialogues, causing significant disturbance and requires extra work and money to do go through those works. The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) has criticised the board’s stance and warned of protests if the matter isn’t resolved soon.

The film was set for a wide release on 27th June, but its fate now hangs in the balance as discussions with the board continue. Here is the teaser of Janaki vs State of Kerala
