December is gearing up to be one of the busiest months for South Indian cinema, with several major Telugu and Tamil films hitting the big screens. Movie lovers can expect a packed festive season as both industries prepare for a wave of exciting releases.

Among the highly anticipated Telugu films is Akhanda 2, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna. The film, releasing on 5 December, is expected to make a strong mark across India. Another major release is Euphoria, directed by Gunasekhar, which is also planned for the same month.

Young hero Pradeep Ranganathan’s LIC is another film creating a strong buzz. Described as a youth entertainer, it is set for a large-scale release in Telugu by Nayanthara & Co. Trade experts believe Pradeep is fast becoming a “crazy star” among younger audiences.

Other Telugu films releasing in December include Shambala starring Aadi Sai Kumar, Champion featuring Roshan Meka, Alcohol with Allari Naresh, and Mowgli starring Roshan Kanakala. Each of these films is expected to draw in audiences with unique content and fresh appeal.

From Tamil cinema, Suriya’s Karippu is one of the most awaited films. Following a series of flops, Suriya is banking on this release for a comeback and plans a massive release across theatres. The film has completed shooting and is currently in post-production.

Karthi, after his successful Sathyam Sundaram, is also returning with Vaa Vathiyaar, another December release. Ravi Mohan’s new film is expected to release around the same time, adding to the competition.

Adding to the buzz, Adivi Sesh’s Dacoit is also set to release in December. With so many big and mid-range movies lined up, trade circles predict a fierce box-office battle between Telugu and Tamil releases.

Even though Telugu cinema has specific “seasonal” release windows, this year producers seem focused more on timing and theatre availability than on traditional schedules. With Diwali season now over, December promises to be a thrilling month for cinema-goers across South India.
