Bad Newz Movie Rating: 2.25/5
Tauba Tauba swag of Vicky Kaushal has rocked the nation. While the team has been able to capture the attention of entire new Generation on social media, their trailer promised a new age triangle love story. Bad Newz has also been able to garner attention with Animal’s Bhabhi 2, Triptii Dimri, taking on a raunchy rom-com next. With many eyes looking at the movie prior to release, makers have successfully brought audiences to theatres. Let’s discuss about the film in detail.
Plot:
Akhil Chadha(Vicky Kaushal), a South Delhi swagster, sweeps away chef Saloni Bagga(Triptii Dimri) and they get married. But slowly, she feels Akhil is too much to handle while her career ambition is sidelined. So, she takes time out from their marriage and decides to concentrate on her career. Her restaurant owner, Gurbir Pannu(Ammy Vrik) seems to be an ideal person for her.
While Akhil keeps flirting with other women, in a moment of spite, she has a one-night stand with Gurbir. And on their anniversary night, she sleeps with Akhil too. Due to heteropaternal superfecundation, both of them turns out to be father of her child. Finding a solution to this twin pregnancy forms the rest of the story of Bad Newz.
Analysis:
The plot has absurd and profane setting that few new generation individuals could go through. The need for a companion and suitable father for a child, have been handled as two different things by the makers in this film. Saloni Bagga has to decide who can be good father for her child while she also has to choose if anyone of them can be her perfect companion, too. This kind of separation of aspects could have been a brighter idea for a rom-com but here writers fumbled.
There is a way to discuss this kind of a plot in sensitive and creatively comical way. But the makers have decided to fill the script with unfunny one-liners and cringe jokes for most part of it. While some clever one-liners also appear, the profanity that accompanies them sink the entire ship. Some chill and fun, easy-going scenes would have stayed back with us had the makers tried to let them stay and not rush through. Bad Newz suffer with over-the-top musical choices, too.
We cannot comprehend if we really laughed at that last joke and if we should laugh at next one or not. But the makers are clear that they are trying to make you laugh, cry and want you to feel something. At most points, we end up feeling cringe rather than seriously feeling carried away into this world of chaos. Attempt at Dark and Black comedy scenes also turns out to be too bland with rushed out nature. Vicky Kaushal has swag and oomph factor to carry this over-the-top role, too.
But Triptii Dimri doesn’t shine consistently. She needs a good script to shoulder her and here she falls flat into a toothless one. While her glamour does save her at times, the film cannot just be about that. Ammy Vrik and all others just don’t fit into this world. On the whole, Bad Newz will only work if you don’t really bother about characters or consistent jokes. If that is not the case, then it is better to leave the Bad Newz aside and concentrate on anything good.
Positives:
Vicky Kaushal’s swag
Triptii Dimri at places
Very absurd plot
Few First hour jokes
Negatives:
Lethargic Writing
Over-the-top Narrative
Unfunny and Cringe-worthy jokes
A bit unrealistic premise
Too many Meta References
Bad Newz Movie Bottom-line: Tauba Tauba!
