Asur 2 Web Series Review: Intriguing but too slow

Asur 2 gave many creators from India to take the mythological stories and give them their spin. Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti performances have been more spoken about upon release of the first season. Now, Asur 2 is streaming on Jio Cinema from 1st June.

Asur 2 tries to build on the interesting premise but writing doesn't add up to first season

Asur 2 is the new season for vastly popular and successful Asur web series. The web series became popular because of the theme and intriguing sequences. The action and the theme have made it even more powerful than regular thrillers. Asur 2 gave many creators from India to take the mythological stories and give them their spin. Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti performances have been more spoken about upon release of the first season. Now, Asur 2 is streaming on Jio Cinema from 1st June.

Asur 2 deals with the situations where the first one left off. Rather than revealing more we would like to leave it to you to watch it. Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti again gave their best in each episode. Their performances hold the show as a glue. The mystery behind real Shubh have been good enough to engage audiences. But the pay off to the story set up doesn’t land as impactfully as it should. Asur has been better with each episode but Asur 2 looses steam for most part.

While the performances are great. The over dependence on the mystery and mythology does not hold as well as the first season. Mythological references in Asur 2 have deeper meaning but Asur had us anticipating about them. That anticipation factor fizzles out in the second season. Asur 2 feels like it is trying to repeat what vastly worked in first season than taking newer turns and twists at times. Some intrigue is saved for the final episodes.

Had the writing been better, Asur 2 would have delievered on the same level Asur first season did. Performances wise again everyone delivered their best as we mentioned earlier. Climax is good in the Second season while production design and cinematography are equally good like first one. On the whole, Asur 2 doesn’t deliver the knock out punch as the first one but engages to an extent.
