Arjun Reddy has completed 8 years since its release, and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga marked the occasion with a heartfelt Instagram post. The film, which starred Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey, became a game-changer for Telugu cinema in 2017.
Released on 25 August that year, the film was made on a budget of only ₹5 crore but went on to gross over ₹50 crore worldwide. Its raw storytelling, emotional depth, and bold portrayal of love and anger struck a strong chord with young audiences, sparking what was called “Arjun Reddy mania” across colleges.
In his note, Vanga wrote that the film had changed his life forever. He said every dialogue, frame, and emotion found meaning only because audiences accepted the story with honesty. Thanking fans, the cast, and the crew, he expressed that even after eight years, the film feels “alive and natural.” He also shared a behind-the-scenes video featuring himself with Vijay Deverakonda during filming.
The lead role was not originally meant for Deverakonda. Vanga had first narrated the story to actors Sharwanand and Manchu Manoj, but they turned it down, fearing how audiences might react to such a bold character. Finally, the role went to Deverakonda, who embraced it fully and became a star overnight.
The success of Arjun Reddy not only gave Telugu cinema a new edge but also shaped the careers of both Vijay Deverakonda and Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The director’s emotional message on its anniversary shows how the film remains close to his heart even today.
