Aquaman is one of the most popular characters of DC Superheroes. While his individual stories are that famous, his part in Justice League has made him famous as a team man. But in DCEU, Aquaman is the only superhero to break the back of box office. After Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, DC struggled to pick momentum against Marvel jaggernaut. Aquaman is the only film that could go beyond USD 1Billion at the box office. Even Wonder Woman had to go through failure with sequel, WW84 and Justice League never took off. Aquaman is the last big hope for DC as they have been facing huge losses.
Blue Beetle, Shazam 2, Black Adam have faced huge losses at the box office. DC has now gone for a full blown revival of their line-up with Guardians of the Galaxy director, James Gunn. Success of Aquaman can give them boost to launch this fresh line-up with much fanfare. James Wan has been able to deliver a massive success when people least expected DC to deliver. Now, once again, he is expected to deliver even bigger success with Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom.
Dc dropped trailer of the film announcing release date. With ongoing SAG-AFTRA, WGA strike Hollywood studios haven’t been able to schedule their movie release dates and many have been postponed to later dates. Now, WB Studios need Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom to bring them back their lost glory. Hence, they have confirmed the scheduled release date for the movie, 20th December, 2023. While Superhero genre films fatigue is visible, Aquaman can be the one gamechanger for the genre. As the movie offers novelistic visuals and set up, James Wan, might be able to deliver again. Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman will be back in this sequel, once again.
