Actress Anushka Shetty has completed 20 successful years in the South Indian film industry. From her debut in 2005 to becoming one of the most respected stars in Indian cinema, her journey has been inspiring.
Anushka, originally named Sweety Shetty, began her career as a yoga instructor, training under the well-known yoga guru Bharat Thakur. Her life changed when director Puri Jagannadh gave her a chance in the film Super, alongside actor Nagarjuna. It was during this film that her name was changed to Anushka.
Super may not have been a huge hit, but Anushka’s career took off. Veteran actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao praised her beauty and presence during the press meet for the film, joking that he would love to act with her.
After Super, Anushka acted in Mahanadi and later starred in Vikramarkudu (2006), directed by S.S. Rajamouli. That film made her a star. In the years that followed, she appeared in hit Telugu films like Lakshyam, Don, and King.
Her biggest break came with Arundhathi in 2009, where she played the powerful role of Jejamma. The film’s success earned her a Nandi Special Jury Award and a loyal fan following.
Over time, she took on more challenging roles, including Vedam, Panchakshari, and Rudhramadevi. With Baahubali, she gained national fame, and her role in Size Zero earned her another Nandi Award.
Though she has slowed down in recent years, acting in just two films in the last five years (Nishabdham and Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty), she remains a beloved actress. She is currently working on a female-led film called Ghaati and a Malayalam project.
Even after 20 years, Anushka’s charm and talent continue to shine. Fans now eagerly wait to see what new roles she takes on next.
