Actor and educator Amala Akkineni is representing India at the prestigious CILECT Congress 2025, being held in Guadalajara, Mexico from 27 to 31 October 2025. She is attending the global event as the Director of Annapurna College of Film and Media, which is among India’s leading film schools.
CILECT — the Centre International de Liaison des Écoles de Cinéma et de Télévision, is an international body that connects top film and television schools from around the world. Its annual congress serves as a platform for educators, researchers, and industry professionals to discuss the evolving nature of film and media education.
The theme for this year’s congress, “The Transformative Power of Conscience in Twenty-First Century Cinema,” highlights the role of filmmakers in shaping social awareness and promoting empathy through storytelling. The discussions and workshops focus on how creative voices can drive change in today’s world while remaining true to artistic integrity.
Speaking about her participation, Amala Akkineni expressed her gratitude for being part of a forum that encourages dialogue on ethics and purpose in cinema. She noted that the theme aligns closely with Annapurna College’s vision, to nurture storytellers who use creativity responsibly and with compassion. For her, film education is not only about technical skills but also about guiding students to become thoughtful and socially conscious artists.
Amala’s presence at the Congress also marks an important step in connecting Indian film education with international standards. By engaging with experts and educators from across the globe, she aims to bring back new insights and teaching methods that can further strengthen India’s creative training landscape.
Her participation underscores India’s growing influence in global film education and reinforces the idea that cinema can be a force for reflection and change. Events like the CILECT Congress create a space where art, ethics, and innovation meet, reminding filmmakers everywhere that storytelling is both a craft and a responsibility.
