Akshay Kumar has been consistently giving films that draw audiences to theatres pre-pandemic. But post pandemic and after Sooryavanshi, the actor has hit a rough patch. No other actor has hit such low like him and latest film of Akshay Kumar, Selfiee is a historic low. The actor has went on to put a Guinness World Record by clicking 184 selfies in 3 minutes for the film promotions. The film still did not open to 5 crore opening too. Akshay Kumar seems to have over exposed himself.
Trade experts are opining that the film is a huge low for the actor. Akshay Kumar has released Laxmii Bomb, Atrangi Re, Cuttputlli films on OTT platforms to a lukewarm response. He released films like Bell Bottom, Ram Setu, Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, Bachchhan Paandey in theatres and all of them failed to impress audiences. Now, his Selfiee with Emraan Hashmi released on 24th February, 2023 and movie is struggling to collect Rs.5 crores Nett on opening day. Akshay Kumar has already signed 5-6 films and this will be huge setback for him.
He is going to appear in Hera Pheri 3 and also in Welcome sequel. These two films should be able to bring audiences back to theatres for him. May be well-planned campaign for Bade Miyan Chote Miyan with Tiger Shroff might encourage mass audiences to come to theatres, as it is an action film. But trade experts say, Akshay Kumar needs to do less films and not be overexposed as people are getting bored to see him, repeatedly.
Mrunal Thakur has appeared in hot avatar in Kudiyee Ni Teri, promotional video and that too did not help the movie. Well, the movie needs good word of mouth during thr weekend to even survive. Shehzada and Selfiee have proved that Shah Rukh Khan drew interest for Pathaan and Akshay Kumar, other Bollywood actors need much better scripts.
