Malayalam actor and producer Soubin Shahir, well known to Telugu audiences, has been facing a major setback. The star, who rose to fame with his performances in several films, gained huge popularity with Manjummel Boys. He not only acted in the film but also worked as one of its producers. The success of the movie gave him a big break, even landing him a role in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s much-awaited film Coolie, starring superstar Rajinikanth and Telugu actor Nagarjuna as the villain. His energetic dance alongside Pooja Hegde in the song Monica further boosted his popularity.
However, the actor is now caught up in a legal issue. A court in Kerala has denied his request to travel to Dubai, leaving fans shocked and curious. The reason goes back to a cheating case connected with Manjummel Boys.
The film, made on a budget of around ₹20 crore, went on to collect over ₹250 crore worldwide. But investor Siraj accused Soubin, his father Babu Shahir, and co-producer Shaun Antony of financial fraud. According to the complaint, Siraj invested ₹7 crore with the promise of receiving a 40% share. Instead of the expected ₹40 crore, he was allegedly given only ₹5.99 crore.
Following these allegations, Soubin Shahir and his co-producers were arrested in early July. They were later released on interim bail, but the court placed conditions on them. One of the restrictions was a ban on travelling abroad until the case is resolved.
Despite requesting permission to attend an awards ceremony in Dubai on 5 September, the Ernakulam Magistrate Court refused his plea, citing the ongoing investigation. This decision has drawn wide attention, as Soubin is currently one of the most popular names in South Indian cinema.
For now, the actor must stay in India until the case moves forward. His fans and industry colleagues are keenly waiting to see how this legal battle unfolds, while his career momentum faces an unexpected pause.
