Narne Nithiin, brother-in-law of Jr. NTR, has been concentrating on proving his mettle as a box office hero and an actor. He got a successful introduction with the film, MAD. Post playing a college student who cares for none, he is back with an unlikely romance, Aay. From the promotions, the movie makers have made it evident that the film will talk about caste differences. the importance that people from towns and villages, even cities still give to such differences is still appalling. But can they deliver this message in a sugar-coated pill and fun narrative as they promise. Let’s discuss in detail.

Plot:
Karthik(Narne Nithiin), an IT professional who hails from Amalapuram, hates his father Burrayya(Vinod Kumar) and his childhood friends Subbu(Kasireddy Rajkumar) and Hari(Ankith Koyya). He shifts to hostel after a misunderstanding at his school due to his friends and returns to hometown 10 years later, as software employee to stay more than a month. But his father and his friends love him so much that they keep trying to be warm towards him. One day, when he notices Pallavi(Nayan Sarika) at a bus stop and falls for her. But she thinks caste is everything while he doesn’t belong to her caste. How will their romance progress or does it even take off? Watch the movie Aay, to know more.

Analysis:
A film that handles caste differences between a young romantic couple always features serious themes like honor killing and oppression. But Aay tries to add comedy to the serious issues and deliver everything in a light-hearted manner. Neither it tries to overtly be preachy nor it tries to be super campy. It keeps things in simple harmony and engaging for the duration. While certain jokes don’t land, still most of them let us travel with the characters. None of them have the quality to stay with us still they do not make us feel discomfortable with cringe scenes.

The characters keep us engaged and scenes flow at good pace. But the makers could have worked on creating Nayan Sarika and Narne Nithiin characters better. If the writing had been better for their romance and their characters, the film could have ended up being more enjoyable. Rather the narrative falls back on jokes and some silly double innuendo lines, regularly. We are not really allowed to connect with main leads as the makers went for heroine being mysterious. Aay movie could have benefitted with trying to connect us with main leads, in even better way.

The climax 15 minutes where Vinod Kumar gets moments to shine elevating the message and thereby the movie Aay, too. If not, it would have ended up being a village comedy with no moments to remember. While the message is simple, straightforward, the emotional connection with characters easily could have made it a must watch film. Staying away from some routine masala items and keeping the staging real has helped director to engage for most part of the film. Music is good but doesn’t really elevate the film as well.

Every technical department has worked to make the movie watchable rather than exceptional. Not saying that every film should be exceptional but the collective efforts of talented technicians should have been to achieve such a memorable film. Anyways, with some flaws, the film still manages to entertain and give a strong climax. Overall, for the intentions of the makers and decent fun they provide, Aay movie ends up as a easy watch.

Positives:
Ensemble Cast performances
Strong Climax
Enjoyable Premise
Different approach to cliched scenes

Aay Movie talks about friendship and love beyond caste differences
Aay Movie talks about friendship and love beyond caste differences

Negatives:
Dragged Second half
Over indulgence in double innuendos
Dependence on Cliches
Resolution needed to be more impactful

Aay Movie Bottom-line: Enjoyable Watch
