Amaravati: VIT-AP University marked the 79th Independence Day with immense patriotic spirit and enthusiasm. The highlight of the day was the ceremonial hoisting of the National Flag — the revered “Tiranga” — by the Chief Guest, Sri R.L. Narayana, Corporate Vice President & Location Head (Vizag & Hyderabad), WNS Global Services Pvt. Ltd.
The Chief Guest addressed the gathering, reflecting on the enduring significance of the day: Independence Day is not merely a commemoration of freedom—it’s a tribute to the courage of countless unsung heroes who built this nation. It inspires us to reflect on our duties as citizens and motivates us to give back to society with integrity and responsibility.
In a heartfelt tribute to real-life heroes, VIT-AP University honoured 9 Unsung Heroes from key public service sectors—NDRF, AP State Disaster Response & Fire Services Department, and APSRTC—for their remarkable dedication to public safety and welfare. Each unsung hero received a memento and a cash reward of ₹25,000, presented by the Chief Guest in recognition of their exemplary service.
List of Honoured Unsung Heroes:
NDRF (National Disaster Response Force):
1. Nidadhavolu Gopala Krishna – Inspector, 10th Battalion
2. Kammari Lokesachari – Head Constable, 10th Battalion
Both officers were acknowledged for their life-saving efforts in various rescue operations.
APSRTC (Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation):
3. Matta Venkata Ramana – Conductor
4. (Late) SK. M. Rasool – Driver
5. (Late) Bhaskar – Driver
6. Muneiah Kanchani – Driver
Their commitment to public transportation and safety in challenging circumstances was lauded.
AP State Disaster Response & Fire Services Department:
7. Putikam Hema Srikanth Reddy – Fireman
8. Yallavula Venkateswarlu – Station Fire Officer
9. Anjaneyulu Jakkampudi – Assistant District Fire Officer
These officers were recognized for their courageous service in emergency fire and rescue operations.

Every year, on national occasions like Independence Day and Republic Day, we take pride in honouring individuals who have served society selflessly.
The celebration also included the distribution of prizes to students, faculty, and staff who excelled in various sports and cultural competitions held on campus.
